In the 1970s, China began to study vapor recovery technology.

Initially, an industrial experimental device was established at the Dongfanghong Refinery and vapor recovery and consumption reduction technology was studied at the Fushun Refinery Plant 3.

By the early 1980s, enterprises and research institutes had begun to study vapor recovery technology. Among them, the Science and Technology Department of Shanghai Petroleum Company and Jiangsu Petrochemical University conducted joint research on vapor recovery technology and successfully developed a new absorption vapor recovery technology and special absorbent;

Sinopec Luoyang Design Institute and Changling Refinery jointly studied and established an absorption oil recovery device. Sinopec Sales Company has also contributed to the development of vapor recovery technology, and continuously introduced new foreign technologies and new products, such as condensation vapor recovery devices, absorption vapor recovery devices, and adsorption vapor recovery devices, which were piloted in oil depots in Tianjin, Shanghai, and Taiyuan. By 1998, Guandong Taiden Company also began to pay attention to vapor recovery technology, began to introduce foreign technology, and successfully put the first and second level vapor recovery devices imported from foreign gas stations into use. In August 2000, many environmental protection units and vapor companies vigorously promoted vapor recovery technology at the vapor recovery special academic conference, calling on the people of the country to use vapor in an environmentally friendly way. By 2003, Sinopec Fushun Petroleum Research Institute developed its own vapor recovery device, which used the condensation method, with condensation temperatures of 3.35 degrees and minus 75 degrees, and then successfully reduced the third-stage condensation temperature to minus 120 degrees in 2006. Qingdao also established the first domestically produced safety engineering research institute and Sinopec Engineering Construction Company in 2004. Since 2006, Dalian has also successively used a number of companies to study vapor recovery devices and put them into use. China's vapor recovery technology developed the fastest in 2007. In this year, China issued many relevant regulations on vapor recovery technology, reducing the pollution of vapor to the environment through institutional management, thereby promoting the development of Chinese vapor recovery industry and meeting people's demand for vapor.

Although China's vapor recovery technology has developed rapidly this year, there are still many shortcomings compared with foreign vapor recovery technology, and continuous exploration and research are needed.

When studying and developing vapor recovery technology, China should also actively introduce or learn advanced foreign technologies, and conduct a comprehensive analysis of various methods of vapor recovery based on specific usage conditions, select the most appropriate method, and then improve the effect of vapor recovery, reduce environmental pollution, and promote the development of China's vapor industry.
